'Music Walk of Fame' and 'Camden Music Festival'
Saturday 9th September, 2023 brought to an end, a stunning and sunny week of Walk of Fame unveilings with the inaugural Camden Music Festival.
Along the pedestrianised High Street from Camden Town Tube to Camden Lock, Camden High Street housed an enclosure with legendary DJs rom MI Soul Radio, all supported by the NTIA.
On Hawley Crescent, outside the old MTV offices, and in association with Music Venue Trust, the main stage featured live performances from Zkeletons, Noah And The Loners, Billy Bragg, Rusty Egan (Blitz, Music Machine), Buzzcocks, Jazzie B (Soul II Soul), and headlined by Shalamar.

Harvey Goldsmith CBE
Legendary promoter Harvey Goldsmith CBE spent his career organising and promoting some of the most significant and iconic music events and concerts globally. Involved in charitable initiatives and fundraising events, most notably Live Aid, Harvey’s philanthropic passion is a huge part of his ongoing legacy.

Janis Joplin
A pioneer in her own right, Janis Joplin’s eclectic and transformative contribution to music and her cultural impact have left an unmovable mark on the world. Her fusion of blues, soul, and rock broke new ground, exceeding all cultural boundaries and she brought the genres to a wider and more commercial audience.

UB40
Formed from Birmingham in 1978, UB40 played a crucial role in taking reggae music mainstream. Paul 'Trouble' Anderson
Over a career spanning four decades, pioneering DJ, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, was at the forefront of the most significant shifts in UK club culture. A founding member of Kiss FM, his Paul Anderson’s Advanced Dance’ mix show broadcast every Saturday night for eight years was of the station’s most popular shows and a pre clubbing ritual for a whole generation.

Gordon Mac
Gordon (Mac) changed the face of UK dance music. As founder of Kiss FM, at the time a pirate dance radio station, Mac introduced underground DJ’s, producers, and artists who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to be heard. The station’s commitment to showcasing diverse electronic music genres helped pave the way for mainstream success.

Exclusive Event
To celebrate Paul and Gordon’s inclusion on ‘The Music Walk Of Fame’, Mi-Soul Radio hiosted an exclusive club night at a Camden venue, where it all began for KissFM! A great line up of legendary DJ's including With some of the original names who played that night.

The Sugarhill Gang
As the first commercially successful Hip Hop group, The Sugarhill Gang were recognised for releasing one of the earliest successful hip-hop singles. Over 40 years ago ‘Rappers Delight’, introduced Hip-Hop to a broader audience helped establish the genre’s presence in mainstream music.

Exclusive GIG
To celebrate their inclusion on the ‘Music Walk Of Fame’, The Sugarhill Gang, Melle Mel and Scorpio played a one-off gig to 400 lucky fans at The Forge, Camden. It was a truly memorable night!

Eddy Grant
The British singer songwriter began pioneering multi-racial British group The Equals in the 1960s. and found solo success, including Electric Avenue, a response to the 1981 Brixton riots and becoming a vital black British voice of the 80s. He was also responsible for helping secure Nelson Mandela’s release with seminal hit “Give Me Hope Joanna”.

BUZZCOCKS
Formed in Bolton, Pop Punk pioneers, Buzzcocks played a crucial role in shaping the genre with tracks like ‘Ever Fallen in Love’, peaking at 12 in the UK charts and ‘Why Can’t I Touch It’. Their music combined the energy and aggression of punk with catchy melodies and relatable lyrics, influencing the pop punk bands that followed.

The KINKS
The Kinks define British rock. Celebrating their 60th year, they were part of the British invasion that took America by storm. Accompanied by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, they helped popularise British music worldwide, they’re known for influential hits like "You Really Got Me" and "Lola," with Ray Davies as frontman and primary songwriter. At their unveiling, not only will Mick Avery be attending, but two members of the original 'Sunny Afternoon' will open with two classic Kinks songs?

Billy Bragg
Celebrated as a singer-songwriter and activist, Billy, uses his musical talents to highlight disparities between communities and deeply rooted inequalities in society. Starting in London pubs he blended folk and punk rock elements with politically charged and socially conscious lyrics. His songs, including ‘A New England’ and Levi Stubbs’ Tears have had a lasting effect on audiences.

Shalamar
American R&B soul music vocal group Shalamar was at the forefront of the disco and dance movement in the late 1970s. Becoming a staple on dance floors and radio stations around the world through their soulful vocals and catchy hooks. Originally a disco-driven group turned dance trio, the group played a crucial role in popularising dance music during the late 70s and early 80s.

The Camden Music Festival
The Music Walk of Fame are proud to announce the launch of its brand-new annual music extravaganza, the Camden Music Festival (CMF). Saturday 9th September, 2023 will bring to an end, a week of Walk of Fame unveilings with the inaugural Camden Music Festival. Along the pedestrianised High Street from Camden Town Tube to Camden Lock there will be two areas of live entertainment for all to enjoy.
